Spring and autumn touring
These seasons can support a balance of sites, villages and walks, with weather still determining what is practical. Mountain conditions differ from the coast, and rain can affect trails and gorge access. Seasonal businesses and boat outings should be confirmed rather than assumed.
Summer on the coast
Allow longer stays and reduce transfers during busy periods. Reserve accommodation and important activities early, especially when dates are fixed. Check heat-related archaeological-site arrangements, fire restrictions and sea conditions, and move exposed walking to a suitable time or another day.
Winter in towns and mountains
Town stays and mountain villages can make a rewarding winter trip with a flexible road plan. Snow, ice and reduced daylight affect higher routes. Confirm heating, restaurant operation and the approach to accommodation. A winter mountain stay should not depend on a particular snowfall or ski operation.
