At historic and sacred places
Respect barriers and instructions at archaeological sites. Follow dress and photography guidance in churches and monasteries, and remember that worship and private life continue around visitor routes. Do not enter a tower house or closed building simply because its doorway is open.
On the coast and in protected areas
Use established dune crossings and keep vehicles away from beaches and vegetation. Watch birds from a distance and follow local wetland restrictions. Leave archaeological material, marine life and natural features in place. A boat trip should operate within current access and protection rules.
On walks and road trips
Check official fire-risk and closure information before a forest or mountain day. Carry water, follow suitable marked routes and turn back when conditions change. Park where the vehicle does not block a village street or emergency access. Refill and shop locally where practical, and take waste away when no appropriate bin is available.
