ARGOLIS

Midea

Midea adds another fortified Mycenaean centre to an Argolis itinerary. It is particularly useful after Mycenae or Tiryns, when the walls and hilltop setting can be read as part of a wider network of Bronze Age power.

What makes it stand out

The surviving fortification and finds from excavation support the site’s role as an important centre. Dendra’s cemetery nearby gives that settlement landscape a funerary counterpart. The two places belong together intellectually, but they are separate visitor stops with separate access requirements. Choose Midea because you want that additional archaeological context, not simply to increase the number of sites visited.

Planning your visit

Use Nafplio as a base and reserve a quieter part of the day for the excursion. Confirm opening and staffing before setting off, especially if you also want Dendra. Expect exposed ground and an uphill setting. The museum in Nafplio can help connect regional finds with the places where they were discovered.
