ARCADIA

Tripoli

Tripoli sits on the inland plateau at a useful meeting point for Peloponnese road journeys. Stay here for the modern city and access to Mantineia, Tegea and Kapsia, keeping mountain-village trips as separate excursions.

What makes it stand out

The city provides an urban counterpoint to Arcadia’s rural image. Walk the centre, choose a museum according to current opening and spend time in the squares before driving back into the surrounding plateau. Mantineia combines archaeology with vineyards, while Tegea has its own archaeological story. Tripoli makes these visits easier to organise without sleeping in a different village each night.

Planning your visit

One night suits a cross-peninsula journey; two give the plateau more attention. Check where you can park relative to accommodation and the places you intend to visit. A cave tour or winery appointment needs a fixed slot, so avoid placing both around a long transfer. For the fir forests and Lousios landscape, change to a Mainalo base rather than commuting repeatedly.
