ARCADIA

Lagkadia

Lagkadia climbs steeply above a ravine on the road through western Arcadia. Stone houses, retaining walls and the changing levels of the settlement make its building tradition visible in the landscape.

What makes it stand out

The village rewards walking beyond the main road, as far as your comfort and conditions allow. Look across the roofscape as well as along the lanes: the adaptation of buildings to the slope is the subject. A meal or overnight lets the village become part of the journey rather than a photograph taken from a bend.

Planning your visit

Allow a few hours for a selected walk, or stay a night on a route between Mainalo and Ilia. Park in a permitted place before exploring; do not stop in the carriageway for a view. Expect gradients and steps, and allow extra caution in wet or icy conditions. Dimitsana and Vytina are natural links within a longer mountain stay.
