ACHAIA

Aigio

Aigio faces the Gulf of Corinth from a town with different levels between the centre and shore. It makes a useful coastal pause between Patras and eastern Achaia, or a first night before heading to Kalavryta.

What makes it stand out

The town’s architecture reflects its history as a commercial centre, including the period of the raisin trade. Choose a walk through the centre and a separate descent towards the shore rather than assuming the whole visit is flat. A museum visit can add context if current opening allows. The surrounding agricultural landscape also supports a food-and-wine day when visits are arranged in advance.

Planning your visit

Stay one night for a touring break or two for a more local programme. Check the actual walking route from accommodation, especially if avoiding steep streets or steps. A producer appointment needs a non-drinking driver when tasting is involved. Continue to Kalavryta on a day with daylight and weather suitable for the mountain road.
