Five days from the Corinthian Gulf to Kalavryta
Combine the Gulf of Corinth with the mountain town of Kalavryta and a managed cave visit. The road itinerary works independently of the Odontotos railway, whose current operation must be checked before any rail booking.
- Time on the road
- 5 days · 4 nights
- Your pace
- Moderate mountain driving
- When to go
- spring and autumn; winter with a flexible weather plan
Where you’ll spend the night
Aigio night 1; Kalavryta nights 2–4; two bases, one hotel change
Aigio
Arrive from Corinth or Patras and explore Aigio, allowing for the difference in level between the centre and shore. Stay the night.

Up to Kalavryta
Drive to Kalavryta and visit the Municipal Museum of the Kalavryta Holocaust if open. Give its account of the 1943 massacre your full attention. Keep the remainder of the day in town.
Cave of the Lakes
Visit the cave near Kastria at a confirmed entry time. Stop in Kleitoria for lunch if it suits the road plan, then return to Kalavryta. Do not add a major hike afterwards.
Chelmos or local history
Choose a suitable local mountain excursion with current advice, or a monastery visit and a quieter town day. Skiing and lifts require confirmed operation. A rail excursion can replace this day only if services have resumed and bookings are available.
Return to the gulf
Drive back towards the Gulf of Corinth and your onward destination. Keep the final morning light enough to avoid rushing the mountain descent.
Before you go
Check the cave tour, memorial museum and road conditions. The operator’s latest railway notice remains the deciding source for the Odontotos.
Cars and motorcycles should use the road network, never the railway corridor. A suspended train service does not turn tracks or tunnels into a public walking route.
Adjust the pace
With more time: Add two nights in mountain Corinthia for Stymphalia and Lake Doxa.
With less time: Use three days in Kalavryta without a separate coastal overnight.
Allow extra travel time. Day 5 if returning to Athens; otherwise the approach and cave excursion depend on the chosen roads.
