Eight days through Mani and Elafonisos
Give Mani its own sequence of stone towns, cave scenery and southern headlands before moving east for an island stay. The transfer between the two peninsulas takes a day in the itinerary; it is not a beach afternoon with a little driving attached.

- Time on the road
- 8 days · 7 nights
- Your pace
- Active road trip followed by a slower island stay
- When to go
- late spring to early autumn, adapting walks to heat
Where you’ll spend the night
Gytheio night 1; Areopoli night 2; Gerolimenas nights 3–4; Elafonisos nights 5–7; four bases, three hotel changes
Arrive in Gytheio
Reach Gytheio and spend the evening on the waterfront. This first night absorbs the journey from farther north and leaves the following day free for Mani.

Areopoli and Limeni
Walk Areopoli, then descend by road to Limeni. Enjoy the contrast between the inland stone town and the bay. Check in around Areopoli for one night and confirm tomorrow’s cave arrangements.

Diros and Gerolimenas
Visit Vlychada at Diros only in the format currently offered by the operator. Continue south to Gerolimenas after the visit and lunch. Mezapos is an optional detour if the day remains light. Stay in Gerolimenas.
Vathia and the southern cape
Drive to Vathia, then choose whether conditions suit the Cape Tainaron lighthouse walk. Keep a turnaround time and allow for the return walk. In heat or strong wind, use a shorter village-and-coast day. Return to Gerolimenas.

Move east to Elafonisos
Drive north out of deep Mani, then east across Laconia to Pounta. Treat the ferry and arrival as the day’s remaining tasks. If the crossing is disrupted, stay on the mainland; the schedule includes no prepaid island activity that afternoon.

Simos and a harbour evening
Use the morning for Simos, keeping to established beach access and away from dune vegetation. Return to your accommodation for a break and walk the harbour later. One beach is enough for this day.
A free island day
Choose the western side around Kato Nisi and Panagia, or return to a beach you enjoyed. Leave space for changing wind and your preferred pace. This extra day is what makes the island stay more than a ferry turnaround.
Crossing and onward travel
Return to Pounta with a weather and queue buffer. Book your next overnight or flight so that the ferry is not the critical final connection. For Athens departures, an additional mainland night may be the more comfortable choice.
Before you go
Check Diros operations, ferry vehicle carriage and all accommodation. Keep mainland lodging options for a disrupted crossing.
Cars and motorcycles need ferry arrangements confirmed for the actual vehicle. Neither a short sea crossing nor a small island removes the need for luggage, parking and weather planning.
Adjust the pace
With more time: Add a second Areopoli night or an extra island night.
With less time: Spend five days entirely in Mani and omit the island crossing.
Allow extra travel time. Day 5, Gerolimenas to Pounta plus ferry; external departure travel is additional.
