Nemea

Nemea connects the ancient games with a cultivated landscape of vineyards. The sanctuary of Zeus and stadium deserve their own attention; a planned winery visit then adds a different way to understand the surrounding countryside.

What makes it stand out

Start with the archaeological complex and museum, using the stadium as part of the story of religious festivals and athletic competition. In the wider wine area, Agiorgitiko is the defining grape. A single well-chosen producer appointment is usually more useful than driving between multiple tasting rooms. Ask about the vineyard location, the wines included and the time required, since a cellar visit and a guided vineyard experience are different outings.

Planning your visit

Allow a day for archaeology, lunch and one reserved wine visit. Use a non-drinking driver or arranged transport. Do not rely on a meal or a break to make driving after tasting appropriate. Nemea can fit between Corinth and Argolis, but combining it with a complete Mycenae visit produces a busy day. For a food-led journey, stay in the area if suitable accommodation is available and continue towards the Mantineia plateau next.
