Ancient Epidaurus on the coast

Ancient Epidaurus, also called Palaia Epidavros, is the coastal settlement to distinguish from the inland sanctuary and its famous theatre. Its harbour gives an archaeological journey a gentler end beside the water.

What makes it stand out

Use the settlement for a waterfront walk and meal, letting the coast provide a contrast to the exposed sanctuary. The smaller ancient theatre associated with the settlement is a separate monument; any visit or performance needs its own access information. This stop can also fit a coastal approach to the southern Argolid, provided the road day remains manageable.

Planning your visit

Allow a few hours if combining it with the sanctuary, or stay locally when a coastal base suits your plans better than Nafplio. Check the exact location of accommodation and the distinction between the two theatres when booking a cultural event. Do not rely on a general search for “Epidaurus” to select the correct entrance or harbour.
