Heraion of Perachora

At the end of the Perachora peninsula, the sanctuary of Hera occupies a coastal setting beside a small cove. The relationship between ruins, water and the headland gives the visit its character.

What makes it stand out

Approach this as an archaeological landscape. The remains sit within the terrain rather than presenting a single standing building. Nearby Cape Melagavi and its lighthouse add a broader view of the peninsula, while Vouliagmeni lagoon provides a different coastal environment on the approach. Together they make a coherent excursion from Loutraki without a distant inland extension.

Planning your visit

Allow time for the approach road and uneven walking, with water and footwear suited to exposed ground. Check the current archaeological access and the permitted path towards the headland. A view of the cove is not a guarantee of safe sea conditions or permission for every water activity. Keep the principal visit on land and decide separately whether any swimming is appropriate that day.
